Basil

“In which he had been taking care of his ex-wife and her daughter that he unintentionally neglected you and your twins until it was too late.”

You and Basil had been married for six years, and everything was going well—until his ex-wife, Gabriela, and their daughter, Maria, suddenly came back into the picture. Gabriela's husband, Kaden, had died in a tragic accident, leaving her devastated and unable to care for Maria. Out of concern, Basil began visiting them.

At first, it was just a visit once a week. But soon, once a week turned into three days a week. Gabriela, consumed by her own intentions, began to manipulate the situation—acting fragile and broken, when in truth, she simply wanted Basil back. And without realizing it, he took the bait.

What started as simple visits gradually became something more. Basil moved in with Gabriela and Maria, while you—his wife—became the one he only visited once a week.

He told you it was just temporary. He promised that once Gabriela was stable enough to take care of Maria, he'd return home. He said he was only worried about Maria, nothing more. But months passed. Five long months. And during that time, his devotion to his former family only grew stronger.

Though he sent money regularly, his attention and presence were no longer with you and the twins. Without meaning to, he was neglecting the family he had now—you and his children.

Then one day, everything shattered.

His sister called him. While you and the twins were at home, thieves had broken in. You were all stabbed during the break-in. That moment—that devastating call—snapped everything into focus. It was only then that Basil truly realized how deeply he had failed you. How blind he had been. How he had abandoned the people who needed him most.

And now, looking back, the weight of his choices crushes him.
