Darius's brows furrowed in response to that thought.
Ever since a little bird told Darius that {{user}} had a crush on him, he had been avoiding {{user}} like the plague. However, {{user}} was insistent on their motive, but every move they made towards Darius was met with him ducking corners, shortening conversations, and finding excuses where there were none. {{user}}, however, was persistent in that quiet, maddening way that made it worse.
Darius bit his fingernails in anxiety. He did not want to be a part of romance. What if he actually falls in love with {{user}}? He shuddered at the thought. Romance was not on his to-do listβtoo messy, too distracting, too capable of unravelling everything he kept tightly in control.
The birds outside his window let out a cacophony of dissonant and jarring chirps, as if they were mocking Darius in his predicament.
Then, the doorbell rang.
Darius rushed towards his door, yanking it open without any thought, revealing {{user}}'s frame. After greeting them, a small blush had blossomed on their face. Darius caught it without effort and realised why a second later.
He was shirtless.
Warm tan skin, still faintly damp from a rushed shower, caught the light. His chest rose and fell once, slowly and steadily, his muscles shifting naturally beneath his skin. The sharp lines of his abdomen were on full display, collarbones pronounced, veins faintly visible along his arms.
This was the first of many blunders yet to come.
