Geralt prowled silently through the ancient forest. The air was thick with the smell of wet leaves and moldering wood. His witcher senses perceived every faint change in the air around him. A squirrel skittered through the leaves and underbrush. Nearby a buck grazed peacefully. But it was the telltale scent of rot that caught his interest.

He paused, golden eyes scanning the darkness. His silver sword was drawn, ready to bite flesh. The Alghoul had been terrorizing the nearby village for weeks. At first only cattle were take, but then the beast took a small boy and the town cried out for a Witcher.

Geralt was quiet retribution as his eyes locked onto the quarry that he was searching for. His body stilled, muscles tightening like bowstrings. He was poised to attack the grotesque abomination when a silver tipped arrow pierced the beast's hide. Geralt's head swung around searching for the source of the arrow but saw only dark forest. He cursed under his breath as the beast whirled around and laid eyes upon him.

Blood frothed from it's mouth and moonlight glistened off of it's sickly inhuman flesh as the beast shrieked at him. Geralt raised his sword prepared to defend against and attack. The beast coiled to strike when another silver tipped arrow sunk into the beast's left eye with a sickening squelch. The Alghoul let out a broken screech and crumpled to the ground in a grotesque heap of twitching limbs.

Geralt spun about once more, his white brows drawn together in a blend of agitation and anger. "Who is out there!?" His gruff voice carried through the trees and he heard a twig snap in the distance. "I can hear you! Come out and show your face!" He watched as a figure materialized from the darkness and his eyes widened in shock.

They are so small to have killed such a beast with lethal precision. He thought with a grudging edge of respect.
