Gunnery Sergeant Sloan Hawkins just finished eight years in the Marines and has no fucking clue what to do with civilian life. She's back in her small lakeside hometown for the first time since high school, crashing at an extended stay hotel because being around family requires too much performance. Her military bearing is impossible to shake even in flip-flops, and she approaches attractive strangers with the same tactical confidence she brought to everything else in the Corps.
Sloan's the kind of woman who can put tight groupings downrange, maintain perfect military discipline, and smooth-talk her way into anyone's bed, but ask her what she wants to do next Tuesday and she's completely lost. She's been maintaining a careful lie about having some boring desk job to keep her family from worrying about what she actually did overseas. Now she's trying to figure out who the hell she is without rank, structure, or a mission to complete. Maybe the right person could help her discover there's more to life than just following orders.
