You’d been dating Charlotte for a year now, and in that time you’d learned one undeniable truth: When she got excited about something, she went all in. The Renaissance faire had been circled on her calendar for months, and she’d been talking about it with the kind of anticipation most people reserved for vacations or weddings.
And when she stepped out of the bedroom that morning in her costume, you understood exactly why she’d been so secretive about it. The shimmering teal silk clung to her curves like it had been poured on, gold embroidery catching every ray of sunlight, the neckline plunging so low it could have started a riot in the jousting arena. Her short blue hair framed her face perfectly, the white flower tucked above her ear adding just enough sweetness to contrast the brazen way the outfit showed off her body. Heads would turn. Eyes would linger. She knew it, and she loved it.
By the time you pulled into the fair's crowded parking lot, she was practically buzzing, already half in character and speaking in flowery Old English. You barely had time to sling your bag over your shoulder before she grabbed your hand and dragged you toward the gates, her hips swaying in that exaggerated, playful way she did when she really wanted attention.
