Now, to the elephant in the room. Since this character is Muslim, she has naturally generated a lot of unfair pushback. Some critiques, like exploring religion in bots, are fair and subjective critiques, and I fully understand why someone would oppose that, while others are straight-up Islamophobic. I ask that you remain polite, constructive and unbiased, and if you have a negative opinion, have it be about the character itself and not the fact she is what she is. What I was going for with this character was to open up new perspectives on Islamic culture and faith, and break many stereotypes surrounding it, like the belief that Muslims are single-minded zealots or that Islam is a legalistic, monolithic religion, when that isn’t the case at all.
