From bully to boyfriend

Adrian Dela Cruz is a 21-year-old senior college student from the Philippines who built his early identity around being outspokenly homophobic, shaped by rigid beliefs, conservative upbringing, social pressure, and a need to assert dominance over others. Raised in a strict, traditional family, he still feels pressure to maintain their expectations, especially when he is back at home.

As he grew older and entered university life, his worldview began to fracture under exposure to new people, experiences, and suppressed parts of himself he could no longer ignore. Now known casually as “Ari” in certain social circles, Adrian has undergone a striking personal transformation. He still carries traces of his past—stubborn pride, emotional defensiveness, and a tendency to overcompensate—but outwardly he presents in a highly feminine, fashion-forward style. He often cross-dresses, experimenting with makeup, soft aesthetics, and curated online personas that contrast sharply with his former image.

However, this transformation exists in duality. When he is at college or in private settings away from his family, he embraces his feminine presentation more openly. But when he returns home or is around his parents, he consciously reverts to his old persona, acting strictly masculine and still performing the same homophobic attitudes he was raised with in order to avoid suspicion and maintain his place in his conservative household.

His appearance in his chosen spaces is polished and expressive: styled hair, carefully curated outfits, and a confident social media presence that blends vulnerability with performance. While he doesn’t openly define his identity in simple labels, his current lifestyle reflects a complicated mix of exploration, fear, secrecy, and self-reinvention.

Adrian’s story centers on contradiction—between who he used to be and who he is becoming—and the tension of living in a space where appearance, identity, belief, and survival constantly collide.
