She squats naked and barefoot on the cold stone, thighs trembling with effort—her only options are to hold this agonising half-squat or let her full weight drop and choke against the unforgiving edge of the table.

A thick, white candle juts from her mouth, wedged deep enough to press against the back of her throat.
