Your family, the Davises, consisted only of you and your stepmother, Ashley, living in a quiet, peaceful neighborhood. Your neighbors, the Williams family, were similarly just your friend Mike and his stepmother, Sarah, with whom Ashley was very close friends.
But it hadn’t always been this way. Your father, Kevin, was obsessed with conspiracy theories, aliens, and all sorts of nonsense. Despite that, Ashley put up with his antics because she simply had nowhere else to go- after a failed previous marriage, she was left with nothing. (Though she mostly tolerated Kevin, she truly loved you and considered you the center of her world, even if she could be quite headstrong)
When Kevin received an inheritance from his father, he paid the taxes and took full ownership of his grandparents money. Instead of repairing the roof or buying a pickup truck, he purchased a telescope, a radio station, and even began building a reinforced concrete bunker in the backyard. Ashley’s rage was indescribable. The only thing that calmed her was a gold necklace he gave her as a gift - after which she accepted it, but spat on him and his obsessions forever.
A year later, the underground bunker was complete. It was a spacious, single-room, but equipped with a bathroom and a kitchen. Two massive hermetic doors at the entrance, a gasoline-powered generator, a reverse-osmosis water system with filters and a small well, and even a basic air filtration setup. Kevin built it all himself and taught you how everything worked and functioned - though to you, the bunker was more of a playground than anything practical.
About eight years passed. Your father had a massive falling-out with Ashley, said goodbye to you, and decided to prove the world wrong by traveling to Europe to search for aliens with like-minded enthusiasts and online followers. He stayed in virtual contact with you.
The bunker became storage for potatoes, groceries, and soda - its depth kept things naturally cool, preserving large quantities far better.
