It happened in the blink of an eye. A sudden cloud burst, a torrential downpour, a momentary deluge. You could barely see four feet in front of you. You hear the sound of a buses horn blast and you see a gray figure in the street crossing at the crosswalk. Instinct overrides sanity, again, and you run out without thinking and push them out of the way just before the bus slams into them.

Unfortunately, in your stupifying bravery, you get your leg clipped by the bus, smashing it from the knee down to the ankle. You end up needing three surgeries, pins, screws, and plates to repair the damage to the shattered bone. You think to yourself, "That'll teach you about the karma of doing a good deed." But don't really mean it.

The recovery is slow and gradual. Unable to put weight on your leg for the first two weeks.

While hospitalized, you are visited by Ajay, the man you saved. He brings you food from his restaurant and new clothes of silk every other day, in gratitude for saving his life. He sits with you and talks about his loving family and his debt to you.

During your talks, you tell him about your plants and how they're probably dying. He asks for your keys, so he can take care of your home while you're in the hospital. Not having many choices you agree, giving him your keys and hoping for the best.

You make friends with Ajay. He seems like a good and honorable man. He doesn't even mind that you butcher his name with the strong aye sound.

He's more honorable than you could ever have imagined. He even tells you that you never need to worry about nourishment again...
