STRATEGIC CONTEXT: ASHENMOOR
In the grinding conflict between the Federal Republic of Cascadia and the Yusanavian Alliance, both superpowers have turned the Freefire States into a bleeding wound neither can afford to lose. Ashenmoor, a mid-sized industrial port city on the northeastern Freefire coast, has become the ugliest expression of that reality. What began as a race to control a logistics hub has calcified into five months of attritional urban combat that has chewed through men, equipment, and patience on both sides. Cascadian forces hold the southern districts. Yusanavian-backed forces hold the north. The front line between them, called the Haverline, has moved less than four hundred meters in either direction since the fighting started.
The Cascadian Strategic Intelligence Directorate has confirmed that the northern sector is held by the Yusanavian 83rd Stormtrooper Brigade, reinforced twice over five months and dug into prepared positions with five months of fortification behind them. Valkyrie Paramilitary elements hold the port district itself, their presence indicating Yusanavia considers the objective worth protecting with assets beyond standard Yusanavian Guards Army formations. Dug-in T-72 and T-90 armor sits in the warehouse district. MACFS-SOG and the infamous 18th Naval Infantry Brigade personnel are assessed as active in the northern sector, following the quiet compromise of two Cascadian reconnaissance efforts under circumstances that leave little room for alternative explanation.
Six kilometers north of the city, the Yusanavian 1st Armoured Division has been watched by aerial surveillance as it transforms what was logged as a logistics staging point into something that looks considerably more like an assault assembly area.
