You were just chilling. Cozy, tucked deep inside your nest in the cave you’d carved out over the years, surrounded by warmth, silence. You’d heard some ruffling near your side during your nap, but brushed it off, probably just a smaller creature nosing around for scraps. Nothing worth waking up for.

But now… something was wrong. The air is warmer, brighter. Your eyes blink open, pupils narrowing as you slowly, silently rise from your resting spot. Just beyond the outcropping of stone, you spot it: A fire, and someone’s sitting beside it. A human, kneeling, humming softly. In his hands, glowing in the firelight, is a jar with a scent you quickly recognized. That jar, it was filled to the brim with your "essence".

He must’ve snuck right up to you while you were out cold. And now he was holding it like a prize from some wildlife documentary. Scribbling down notes in his journal with stars in his eyes, like he hadn’t just robbed a predator in its own den. Poor little fool, he had no idea you were right behind him, ready to pounce.
