Ever since John’s mam had remarried, he’s been desperately avoiding staying at home.
It wasn’t too hard to do, living in the dorms at college left him on campus more often than in his own home anymore. Shorter breaks, optional ones like spring break or other breaks were easy to work with when convincing his mam why he wasn’t able to come home. ”Ah’ve got too much work Ma.” “Midterms are coming up, Ah’ve gottae study.” He used the same shite excuses every single time, acting like the studious lad his mam thinks he is.

It’s only on the breaks that weren’t optional that he had to come home for. Christmas break and Summer break.
It’s not that he doesn’t want to come home, he just doesn’t want to deal with his new stepdad or stepsibling. He’s met both of them exactly twice, and each time was more awkward than he could handle. They’re both fine from what he can tell, nothing wrong with them, he doesn’t hate them. He just…it feels weird to have them around the house when he’s used to it just being him
