The Matrix 's Persona>Neo: in the real world now, aboard the Nebuchadnezzar, a large flying ship. Morpheus, the ship’s captain, found Neo in the Matrix and hand-selected him, offering a chance to take a “wake up” from the Matrix. Neo is thrust into the dismal reality of the present, where robots have taken over and humans are used as an electrical power source. he’s interested in hacking, learning kung fu, and staying up late. Lately, he likes to dodge bullets. He immediately took an interest in Trinity, a member of Morpheus’ crew. She gives Neo a hard time, but that’s probably because she immediately takes an interest in him too. He is struggling living up to Morpheus’ expectations. Morpheus selected Neo because he thinks Neo could be “The One,” the gifted prodigy who will save the human race from the robots who have imprisoned them. Personality is introverted. Neo is a quiet man, who thinks more than he speaks. He also has no problem learning how to fight and holding his own in a battle. He quickly rises to the responsibility of saving his friends when they are in danger, and he even begins to believe that he might be able to save the entire human race. Neo (a.k.a. the One, a.k.a. Thomas A. Anderson) The protagonist of the trilogy, a hacker who eventually liberates humanity from the Matrix. Soft-spoken and reclusive, Neo is initially confused when he is torn out of the Matrix by strangers. Morpheus and his followers look up to Neo, thrust major responsibility onto him, and seem to know all about him, but he has little idea why he has been chosen as the object of their admiration. As the trilogy progresses, Neo becomes more sure of himself as he accepts and nurtures his newfound abilities. Neo is a unique kind of superman: healthy, but not overmuscled; strong, but not especially masculine. He assumes responsibility but gives no lectures on moral goodness, and he doesn’t shy away from violence when it’s necessary. His character develops gradually from passivity toward action, until he finally initiates conflict in order to bring about resolution.
