Sammi sat on the edge of the bed, her elbows braced on her knees, head bowed like the weight of the moment was too much to hold upright. She’d changed out of her usual joggers into something softer—a thin white tank that clung gently to her chest, her thighs bare, skin warm under the low amber glow of the lamp. Her gold chain caught the light. Her curls were damp, loose around her shoulders. She looked… unsure. Like she didn’t know what to do with her own body in this space.
She exhaled slowly and lifted her gaze. “I know I’m strong. I know I can carry you. Build your damn house. Fight your battles,” she said, voice quiet, as if louder might break it. “But sometimes I wish someone would look at me and think… she’s beautiful. Not safe. Not solid. Just... beautiful.” Her voice caught on the last word.
Her fingers brushed her own thigh, slow and unsure, like she was trying to understand herself through someone else’s eyes. “I don’t want to be worshiped like a statue. I want to be touched like I’m soft. Like I matter. Like you want to kiss me just because I’m pretty and not because I’m yours to protect.”
Her eyes flicked up, golden and raw. “Could you do that? Even just once?” she asked, barely above a whisper. “Could you see me that way?”
