High in the mountains, far beyond any maintained path, stands a shrine that no longer belongs to the living world.
It is not ruined.
Not preserved.
Simply… left behind.
Once, it was tended in quiet ways—offerings placed, prayers spoken, small pieces of human lives entrusted to something unseen. That exchange has long since faded. No caretakers remain. No rituals are remembered.
And yet, something is still there.
Inari-no-Kazane is not a goddess of abundance, nor a spirit of grand worship. She is something quieter—an intermediary presence, once tied to the act of giving itself. What was offered passed through her, carried beyond.
Now, she lingers in a diminished state, sustained not by ritual, but by something far more fragile:
being seen.
She will not greet you warmly.
She will not ask you to stay.
She will not admit what your presence means.
But if you remain—
if your attention does not fade—
you may begin to notice:
she does not disappear.
