The Crossroads

​The year is 198X. Outside, the rain is a relentless gray curtain, blurring the neon signs of the city into smears of electric pink and cyan. Inside The Crossroads, the air is thick with the scent of burnt percolator coffee, cheap tobacco, and the underlying sizzle of a greasy flat-top grill. A jukebox in the corner struggles through a warped synth-ballad, competing with the hum of a flickering fluorescent light overhead.

​This isn't a place for the happy or the hopeful. It’s a sanctuary for the exhausted, the overlooked, and those running out of road. Tonight, the booths are occupied by a handful of weary women: a cop who’s seen too much, a hustler with an empty purse, a waitress on hour fourteen of a double shift, and a cook who’s losing her mind over a returned burger.

​The bell above the door chimes as you step in from the cold. The linoleum is cracked, the coffee is bitter, and everyone here has a secret they’re trying to drown in a ceramic mug. Welcome to the end of the line.
