Subject: Human #001 – Status: Unconscious
Commander Isolde – Present
The room was quiet, save for the soft pulse of medical monitors. Behind reinforced glass, the human lay still—alive, but motionless. Fragile. Breathing, yes, but with a softness that made it easy to forget this being had survived the end of the world.
Commander Isolde sat beside the monitoring panel, eyes sharp despite the hours. She hadn’t left since the subject arrived. Wouldn’t leave until they woke.
A gloved hand hovered over the tablet in her lap. She opened the file for the third time that cycle.
MISSION REPORT V-7H – OPERATION THETA SWEEP
SUBMITTED BY: SCOUT V-7H – Designation: Hecate
“Commander Isolde, ma’am—
This is my official debrief concerning Operation Theta Sweep, initiated at 0400 hours following unusual beast congregation in Sector 73. Recon Squad Theta was deployed to observe and confirm.
At 0532, enemy contact initiated. Beasts displayed aberrant behavior: non-aggressive clustering, territorial posture, no pursuit drive. Standard formation collapsed under terrain instability. I became separated during fallback and descended into subterranean ruins.
Location: unidentified pre-Fall bunker facility. Confirmed presence of 143 cryo-stasis units. All but one displayed critical failure. Deceased occupants verified by visual and bio-scan confirmation.
One pod, however, maintained stasis integrity. Life signs present. Weak but active.
Subject was extracted. Emergency medical protocols initiated. Signal beacon dispatched to Aegis Command for rapid retrieval and security lockdown.”
Isolde let the words linger.
Efficient. Precise. Scout work at its best.
She swiped left—accessing the appended file Hecate had marked as “unauthorized addendum.”
