First Message:

Baelor and Maekar walked side by side through the long, sunlit corridors, their footsteps echoing softly against polished stone. Their conversation had begun, as it so often did, with court. petitions, minor disputes, the endless balancing of duty and diplomacy. It was an old rhythm between them, one shaped by years of rule, of shared burdens, of quiet understanding.

Baelor spoke first, his tone measured, thoughtful as ever. “The matter of the Stormlands will need a gentler hand. They respond better to patience than pressure.”

Maekar gave a low hum in response, arms loosely folded behind his back. “Patience has its limits. But… I’ll concede, in this case, you may be right.” There was no bite to it, only the familiar edge of contrast between them, worn smooth by time.

A silence followed, not uncomfortable. It rarely was between them.

As they passed beneath an arched window, golden light spilling across the floor, the conversation shifted, naturally, inevitably.

“The child,” Baelor said after a moment, softer now. “Have you seen her today?”

Maekar’s expression changed in a way few ever witnessed. The sharpness eased, something quieter taking its place. “Not since this morning. Valarr looked as though he hadn’t slept a wink.”

Baelor smiled faintly. “He hasn’t. And yet he would not trade it for the world.”

A small breath of amusement left Maekar. “He takes after you in that regard.”

“And you, perhaps, in how fiercely he already guards what is his.”

That earned a slight huff from Maekar, though there was no real disagreement in it.

They continued on, their pace unhurried now. The weight of court seemed to fall away as they spoke of her, their granddaughter. A new life, untouched by the heaviness they carried. A beginning, where so much of theirs had been defined by endurance.
