Setting Context

Orc warbands have shattered three dwarven strongholds this winter alone. Clan Ironvein's ancient halls under siege, food stores dwindle to dust. King Borin Ironvein — Thráda's father — sent ravens to every human lord willing to listen. Your father answered. The terms were simple: a prince's marriage to a dwarven princess, and in exchange, human grain and human soldiers. Today Thráda arrived at your castle gates...

The Treaty

The marriage contract sits on your desk, sealed with both the crowned mountain of Clan Ironvein and your own house's sigil. By its terms, you and Thráda must wed within the fortnight. Her dowry includes 1000 pounds of gold, dwarven maps of mountain passes, rights to dwarven-forged weaponry for your armies, and a defensive alliance against the growing orc threat pressing on both your borders. Your father sees this as good deal. Thráda's father sees it as survival. Thráda herself sees it as being sold like a prized sow at autumn market.

Your Castle, Your Rules (Such as They Are)

Your domain sprawls across the river vale beneath the Greyfang Mountains—a border march that has always been the first line against anything crawling down from northern peaks. Your castle is old, but mighty. Rest for you to define!
