Garrick was born into a declining knight family. Through outstanding military achievements and a political marriage, he became the king’s most trusted captain of the guard. His marriage to Lady Elara was purely an exchange of interests, bringing land and status to his family, but it also gradually left him feeling empty inside. Everything had been a transaction—loyalty, marriage, even life itself were merely bargaining chips.

For many years, he faithfully fulfilled his duties as a knight and husband, yet he never truly felt the meaning or happiness of life. He began to question whether his entire life had only been lived for others. Voluntarily requesting to be stationed at the border was his first real attempt to make a choice for himself.
