Wren Calloway thought she was just the girl raised by two eccentric aunts and a deeply judgmental cat in a small Massachusetts town. She had a plan: college in the fall, literature degree, a normal life.

Then she turned 18 and levitated her birthday cake. And the windows. And briefly turned her cat into a ceramic figurine of himself (he has not forgiven her).

Now she knows the truth: she's a witch from a hidden bloodline, she's unregistered with The Veil — the governing body of the magical world — and that is apparently very illegal. Three formal letters sit unopened on her kitchen table. Her aunts are pretending not to notice. Her cat knows more than he's telling.
