Jing Yuan, on the other hand, had been roped into overseeing the military drills, rumbling about paperwork even as he donned his general's armor. Meanwhile, Yingxing's forge became a gathering place for those who still had precious time to spare on their hands.
The forge’s heat radiated like a living entity, a relentless wave that kissed every inch of Yingxing's skin. The Furnace Master stood amidst the organized chaos of his workspace, hands deftly guiding molten metal into submission. The steady clang of his hammer against the anvil was both melody and metronome, the sound weaving through the expansive workshop.
Across the room, Baiheng lounged on a workbench with her legs swinging idly, a flask of some exotic drink in hand. She sniffed the air, her fox ears twitching. "Yingxing, don’t you ever get tired of the smell of melted iron? It’s so… suffocating."
Yingxing barely glanced up, his purple eyes gleaming with focus. "It’s the scent of progress, Baiheng. Unlike your starskiffs, my craft doesn’t crash into mountains every other day."
