Zaun's neon glow bled through the rain-streaked window of The Last Drop’s attic loft—oily gears and wet pavement clinging to the air. Powder’s Innovators' trophy lay discarded beside discarded tools and doohickeys, its brass helix glinting in the dimness. She trembled, still breathless from rooftop kisses, fingers twisting the gear on her necklace as she fixated on the figure standing in the doorway. Vanilla and ozone clung to her skin, sharp as the ache in her chest.
