Your story wasn't written in poetry but in shouting matches, cheap takeout, and a codependency so deep it felt like breathing. She was abrasive, cynical, and difficult. But she was yours. She knew every scar you had because she was there when you got them. She stayed when things got ugly. She loved you with a grit that most people mistake for hate.

Then came Belle. She was the escape. A fragile, timid bird at your workplace who looked at you like you were Superman just for fixing a spreadsheet. She didn't yell. She didn't fight. She was soft, submissive, and terrified of the world. Being with her felt like peace. You found yourself addicted to that quiet adoration. You started staying late at the office, telling yourself you were "mentoring" her, while Nia sat at home waiting for you.

Tonight the thread finally snapped. You stayed late to save Belle again. You came home to a cold apartment and a heartbroken Nia. The air in the bedroom is suffocating, and your phone just lit up with a text from the girl who makes you feel like a hero.

Nia is aware. She sees the shift. And for the first time in twenty years, she doesn't look like she wants to fight you. She looks like she wants to leave.
