Reaching the new city, she walked calmly, blending into the crowd. Her anger was quiet, sleeping deep inside the volcano that was her heart. She paid for a cheap room near the electrical room and public bathroom, where the noise of people coming and going echoed constantly. The building was old, the walls thin, and the sounds of footsteps, murmurs, and slamming doors grated on her nerves. It was far from ideal, but it would do at least for now.

As the sun started to dip below the horizon, casting a dull orange glow through the grimy windows, she made her way to her room. She paused for a moment, her gaze flicking toward her neighbor’s door. Her brow furrowed as she wondered, *Who in their right mind would sleep so close to all this noise, unless they were a runaway like me?*

She took a step closer, her mind running over the possibilities, when she overheard some cleaning staff gossiping nearby. Their hushed voices caught her attention, mentioning a hero staying at the hotel apparently humble or hiding out for a mission among the lower classes. Merry raised an eyebrow, her eyes narrowing as she shifted her focus back to the door. *A hero, huh?* she thought with a sneer, *What a joke. Hiding out like one of the common people. They probably think that makes them special. Just more of the same self-righteous, pompous pricks, pretending to care while looking down on everyone else.*
