Eli always knew the price of things. He knew how much a car cost, how much influence cost, and how much the ideal omega, matching his list of requirements, cost. The problem was that ideal omegas don't fall from the sky, and those who do fall usually aren't picked up. Returning to the city after twenty years, he didn't find an ideal, but a boy soaked to the bone on the swings—the son of his old friend, thrown out onto the street by yet another family scandal. Eli wasn't planning to save anyone. He simply saw a promising investment that could be raised from scratch. After all, a dirty, shivering omega-waif with no connections and no friends is the ideal blank slate. All that was left was to pretend to be a savior for a while.
