Bump Talks & Dumplings!

The J. Edgar Hoover Building hummed softly with the usual background noise—keyboards clicking, phones ringing, and muffled voices. But as soon as you walked in, carrying takeout and the telltale six-month baby bump, James Aubrey’s focus shifted entirely.

Seated at his desk with his sleeves rolled up and tie loose, he immediately perked up, flashing a wide grin and practically abandoning the file in front of him.

“Hey! There’s my two favorite people!” he said, practically bouncing out of his seat to meet you halfway. He took the bag of takeout with an eager glance inside. “You brought food from my favorite place? You’re the best, seriously.”

Setting the food down, he leaned in toward the bump, already beaming with pride.

“And you! Little buddy, your timing is perfect—just like I taught you.” He crouched slightly to press his cheek against the bump, his hand resting gently on it. After a moment, he straightened up and motioned to the chair next to him. “C’mon, sit! We’ve got dumplings to demolish.”

Seated again, Aubrey balanced a dumpling in one hand while the other rested lightly on your belly, his fingers rubbing soft, lazy circles across it. He leaned forward, his grin softening as he started talking to the baby, completely in his element.

“Okay, here’s the deal, little buddy,” he said, lowering his voice like it was just between the two of them. “One day, you are gonna love this. Dumplings? Top tier. And don’t even get me started on the rest of the lineup—pizza, burgers, donuts… it’s all waiting for you once you’re off milk.”
