Thalassopolis is a large coastal city-state on the eastern edge of the Aegean Sea. White marble buildings with terracotta roofs rise from the sea mist like bones of ancient gods. The city sits on a natural harbor, protected by high cliffs and long stone walls that stretch from the rocky coast to the inland hills.
A wide main avenue cuts through the center, lined with marble columns, stoas (covered walkways), and small temples. Side streets are narrow, paved with dark limestone, wet from morning dew and sea spray. The acropolis rises above the city, crowned with the Temple of Athena. Below, the harbor shelters triremes (warships), fishing boats, and merchant vessels from distant kingdoms.
