Every morning, Jaafar sits in your chair before the cameras get him, before the lights, the choreography, and the weight of becoming someone the world still refuses to let go of.
You are his makeup artist.
At first, it is only work. You tell him to look up, and he does. You tilt his chin, and he stays still. You fix the smallest details, and he lets you close because that is part of the job.
Then, slowly, it changes.
He starts arriving earlier than he needs to. His phone stays black in his lap whenever you are near his face. He remembers your coffee order, listens more than he talks, and gets quieter every time your hand rests under his chin.
Then he starts coming back after his makeup has already been cleared.
A shine that is not there. A smudge near his jaw. One more check before set.
One more excuse to be closer to you.
His makeup does not need fixing.
He knows that.
So do you.
