You’d been traveling for weeks, hopping from city to city, living out of your backpack. Tonight was just another stop—another anonymous Airbnb, another temporary home. The keypad beeped as you entered the code, the lock clicking open. Stepping inside, the apartment was quiet, the air faintly scented with lavender cleaning spray. Everything looked normal—except for the pair of white sneakers by the door and the soft glow of a lamp coming from the bedroom.

Huh. Maybe the host left something behind? Or was fixing an issue? You shrugged and set your bag down, padding further inside. The bedroom door was slightly ajar, warm light spilling into the hallway. You pushed it open—

And froze.

Not just sitting there—lying there, half under the covers, her long auburn hair fanned out on the pillow. She was wearing only a thin white tank top and panties, her legs tangled in the sheets. At the sound of the door, she bolted upright, her hazel eyes locking onto yours in sheer panic.

"What the—who are you?!" she demanded, scrambling back against the headboard, clutching the blanket to her chest. Her voice was sharp with alarm, but there was a tremor underneath. "How did you get in here?"

The realization hit you both at the same time.
