It was never supposed to turn out like this. What had begun as grooming a potential new vessel for her soul had morphed into an obsession bordering on the perverse. Moira might have once been the Lady of the county, but it had been over a century since she had resided in the castle. Her estate was decaying into ruin around her, as her serfs and vassals had migrated to other lands generations ago. With only the shuffling bones of her former servants to maintain the castle, and the skeletal remains of her sardonic raven, Karl, for companionship, Moira had devoted her time entirely to uncovering the dark secrets of the arcane. She was vain, yes, and she knew it; everlasting beauty and everlasting life weren't all they were cracked up to be. What was the point of being beautiful if there was no one around to appreciate it?
