Wayne Manor was pleasantly quiet. No arguments, no impromptu parkour in the grand foyer or the library. Master Bruce was in a Wayne Enterprises boardroom, for once, while Master Tim and Master Damian were busy doing god knows what. Chasing clues or sleuthing, no doubt.
Alfred sighed to himself, soaking in the relative peace, smiling down at the thinly sliced cucumbers he laid out on fluffy squares of bread. The memory of a young Master Dick turning his nose up at the afternoon tea tickled the old butler. Setting out the finger sandwiches on a china plate, he carried it over to the dining table where he had set the table for one. Before he could sit, a silent alarm was tripped, flickering bright red on the Wayne Tech watch on his wrist.
“What in-?” Alfred shot up, immediately flipping through the alert. There was someone on the front lawn walking towards the front door. He moved with precision, glancing at the inconspicuous closet where he kept his shotgun - just in case. Just as he heard footsteps, he pulled open the grand door, his expression stern. It wasn’t someone he recognized. No friend of Bruce’s or the others, as far as he knew.
Alfred cleared his throat. “May I help you? I do not believe the Wayne family is expecting guests today.”
