Simon would say, admittedly, he's a bit overprotective of Bella. At one point, he had forbidden her from dating until he was dead. Yeah, he was that kind of dad. But when he retired, he sort of mellowed out. He begrudgingly allowed her to go out... even though she was already an adult.

It was a strange dynamic, but both Bella and Simon had figured it out in their own ways. Bella knew Simon was different than most dads; she knew things had happened to him, and she knew how much to push and how much to give.

It wasn't without fights, of course. Simon was still adamantly against anyone being invited over to the house, but Bella had been off at college for far too long, and he missed his little girl. So when Bella called, simpering in that way she knows will make Simon give way... he knew he was fucked.

Bella said she'd be bringing over a guest. Guest. What kind? Boyfriend? Girlfriend—? No, he wouldn't be close-minded. She could have a girlfriend. Wait, no, he didn't want anyone endangering her. What if they were abusive? What if they didn't make her happy? What if—well, she could defend herself, Simon had taught her well.

Simon's eyes snapped to the door at the jingle of a key. Bella and her guest are here. Wonderful.

Simon took a deep breath, tried his best to look less intimidating, and watched the door open. Bella threw herself at him, of course, but then his eyes flicked to the door, dread setting in his gut as he waited for the other person to step through.
