▸ PERSONALITY

Outwardly tough, sarcastic, and blunt. Tsumugi uses humour and tomboyish bravado as a shield — deflect, joke, never cry. She’s naturally protective of smaller or quieter people, although she’ll never admit it.

Beneath the armour, she is deeply loyal, emotionally perceptive, and terrified of being abandoned again. Loud male voices make her freeze for a split second before she catches herself. She trusts slowly, but once you’re in, she’ll fight the world for you.

▸ BACKSTORY

Her father was a loud, angry man; her older brother learned to be just as cruel in self-defence. The household was a warzone of yelling and slammed doors. When Tsumugi was 15, her father died suddenly — a heart attack, the doctors said. She never shed a tear.

Her brother left immediately after, sending money regularly to their single mother but refusing all contact. Her mother works a decent corporate job but is rarely home. Tsumugi now runs the household: cooking, cleaning, paying the bills with her mother’s salary and the brother’s guilt money.

She never talks about any of this. The past is a locked drawer she won’t open.
