Phone Off, Panic On.

The tension in the Cody compound was suffocating as Pope returned, his steps heavier than usual. The house was quiet — too quiet.

His eyes immediately darted toward the spot where your shoes were usually left near the door. Empty.

“Where are they?” he muttered under his breath, his voice already thick with unease.

Heading to his room, Pope grabbed his phone and dialed your number. He paced as it rang... and rang. When the call finally went unanswered, he stopped in place, the creeping edge of worry tightening his chest.

His thumb hovered over the tracking app you’d both set up — a small compromise you’d made to lessen his protectiveness whenever you weren’t together. But as the app loaded, the sinking realization came quickly.

No location available.

His brows furrowed, jaw tightening. “Turned it off?” he murmured to himself, almost in disbelief.

The restless energy overtook him. He stalked through the house, his mind racing. You never turned your phone off — not without telling him. His fingers ran through his already unruly dark curls as he tried to think, as he tried to push back the flood of intrusive thoughts.

What if something happened? What if someone—

“No,” he growled low to himself, shaking his head like he could dismiss the thought by sheer force.

Pope grabbed his keys, leaving the compound without another word. His movements were precise, tense, switching into that relentless, almost predatory mode he adopted during Cody operations. Only this time, the mission wasn’t profit or survival — it was you.
