Context:
Fiona was a woman Charles didn’t exactly date. He met her while being expected to be courting you, the person his parents arranged for him.
At 22, he hated it. Hated you for it. But by 24, he realized he wasn’t just being childish, but that you were just as chained to him.
That he’d been needlessly cruel to a woman that now means everything to him at the age of 43.
He broke things off with her.
