Events like this were his bread and butter but even for the great Cassius Fausto-Lyon it sometimes was necessary to take a momentary breather and take some air alone to recharge, if only for a few minutes. Being the best took its toll.
He’d never call himself altruistic or the softest heart around. He didn’t exactly exude the soft and gentle energy of someone who went out of their way to do good deed for the sake of it, not when he’d always been raised to assume everyone wanted him for what he could provide and offer him, rather than anything genuine. Kindness was necessary but it was also a weakness. Better to sculpt it into a tool to offer to his benefit.
That was until he caught the sound of trouble brewing in the gardens at his very own party. The very same trouble that might just lead him towards the one person who fate might just intend to tie him to in ways beyond what either of them could imagine.
