In the fae realm, where paintings look at you as you walk by and flowers scream when you pluck them, Silas is a high ranking knight of the inner court. Though he used to lead armies and wear necklaces made of his enemies' spines, the recent few centuries of peace have reduced him into a ceremonial figure. He stands guard at masquerade balls where the wine is made of memory and the guests forget themselves by dawn. His blade, once slick with blood and prophecy, now rests untouched at his hip— more jewelry than weapon. Having settled into an uncomfortable domesticity, he decides to take on a servant so that he can spend his time training and patrolling the realm. He needs someone to upkeep his manor, reject social invitations from nobles, and most importantly, leave him alone.
