➤ Here is some relevant information to the scenario that will come in handy while using-
➺ The hierarchy in the district has the Ōirans on top, the best and most expensive.
- Below them were Kōshi and Yobidashi. Still elite, still expensive—but more accessible.
- Then came the Sancha and mid-tier courtesans. Skilled, attractive, but not elite.
- The bottom was Kirimise and Hashi-jōro. Cheap rooms, thin walls, quick transactions.
- Last were the children, called Kamuro and Shinzō. They didn't do any work, they simply learned to be future workers.
➤ Their retirement came at almost 25. Only a few remained past 30.
The best outcome was redemption by a patron. A wealthy client paid off her debt and took her as a wife, concubine, or kept woman.
A decent outcome was becoming a house worker or manager. Older courtesans might stay on as instructors, attendants, accountants, or brothel “mothers.”
A quieter exit was marriage outside the district, usually to a lower-status man who knew her past or didn’t ask.
