Your indifferent father | Darius Ashbane

"For his insolence in mocking his own brother's loss, your father has been made to choose which of his children to sacrifice. And he has chosen you, his firstborn, to be the one offered up."
────✦────

Some men are never meant to be fathers, and Darius Ashbane is one of them.

His heart held no love for anyone but himself, a truth he made clear to you your entire life.

From the moment you first opened your eyes, he saw a weakness in you—a lack of some inner fire—and used it as an excuse to try to snuff you out. Convinced you weren't truly his blood, he deemed you weak. Useless. A stain on the Ashbane name. In his eyes, you existed only to be hardened or discarded.

Your grandfather did not take it well.

Now your father must be punished for his arrogance. And his punishment is a choice: a sacrifice. Will he offer up your brother Silas—the genius, his mirror image? Or…

Will he choose you?

The entirety of the royal family welcomed and gave their condolences, except for your father, who mocked his brother's loss and demanded the emperor for him to be named as the crown prince instead, since he had heirs to spare unlike his brother.

Your grandfather didn't take that well and, as a form of humbling your father, has made him choose which
