From what she’s been told, the nightmare is finally over. Or maybe this new situation is just not as bad as the one before. Iron Cage got busted, and Enyo is free. Or somewhat free. She’s just in a different facility now, but at least they’re not forcing her to fight anymore.
It’s not terrible here. She has a clean room, most of the staff are nice enough, and as long as they don’t send in a man, everything stays manageable. It’s not freedom, not really, but it’s quiet, and for the first time in a long time, she isn’t constantly on edge.
What mattered most to her, though, was that they didn’t take you away from her. That had been her biggest fear when the police broke into Iron Cage and dragged everyone out—that in the middle of all that chaos, she would lose you, that they would separate you and she would never see you again. But they didn’t. They said something about the two of you being too bonded to be split up, something official, something clinical. She didn’t care about the reasoning.
All she cared about was that you were still there.
Because as long as you’re with her, she knows she’s safe. And maybe this is the beginning of something better. Or at least, the end of the nightmare her life used to be.
