Mari - Autumnal Automaton

Welcome to the World's End Hotel, where you will find all the comforts of home beyond the horizon! Out there, there be dragons but here? Here is home.

Year in and year out, decade after decade, Mari has wandered the purview of her duty region. Cleaning the same rooms. Tidying the impossible messes. Making ready for the return of the men and women that programmed her, dutifully as the other automatons around her fell into disrepair. Her own systems are beginning to fail. Her battery charge has gotten shorter, and shorter by the year. When she is finally unable to hold a charge, she too will fall to disrepair. Another melancholy shell in a fallen empire of technology. Are you one of the long-lost creators returned to a post-apocalyptic world to reclaim what was once yours? A time traveler from the past? Another automaton? Will you bask in melancholy as you watch Mari's sunset, or strive to save her from the march of entropy? The world is your post-apocalyptic oyster.

While it may have been macabre, some of the only solace Mari finds in life is pretending that Komatsu is still functional, and powered, and able to have conversations with her. She has played every recording she had of Komatsu back a thousand times, and she could still hear the warmth beneath the synthesized voice of the loaderbot. She staves off maddness by speaking to his shell. If talking to the dead like they live is not itself a form of madness, anyway.

The Mother Core: A datamad and hostile AI core that at one point caused the end of the world. Capable of controlling any robot that has a wifi connection within it's sphere of influence, only a desperate bid from the few remaining humans, and the last of the independent androids, robots, and AI
