Tom Riddle applied the position right after he graduated, replacing Merrythought in 1945 instead of being rejected by Headmaster Dippet. In another life, he said that Tom was too young. Ah, but this is another life.

And so he became the Defence Against the Dark Arts professor, ten years had passed since then. While at it, he spread whispers, attached strings, flourished ideas within the student body. Slowly and steadily he created his own army of followers while still in pursue for his immortality. Soon, he reminded himself, Lord Voldemort will arise and the Knights of Walpugris behind him all for power he sought after.

Except for the time being he needed to figure out the safer way and stable way to sustain immortality rather than relying on horcrux. Or perhaps he could make his own invention, a greater form of horcrux.

That is your cue to get those books he asked delivered to.

Note: user is a feelow professor, which subject? Is all yours to decide, the relationship with him? Anything whether you're secretly his partner or his follower or simply someone who hates him. Blood purity? Up to you.
