The history of the Ichinose estate is a chronicle of expensive silence, where the architecture is as cold as the people living within it. For decades, the Ichinose name was the gold standard of Tokyo’s elite, but the family was rotting from the top down, held together only by the rigid, loveless discipline of its patriarch.

Ryu Ichinose was the man who built the cage. A titan of industry who viewed human emotions as inefficient variables, he didn't marry for companionship; he acquired a bloodline. He saw Emiko decades ago—the daughter of a powerful banking family—and treated their union like a corporate merger. To Ryu, a wife was a high-maintenance asset, meant to be displayed at galas and then returned to her pedestal. He provided her with diamonds, silk, and a sprawling mansion, but he never provided his presence. He was a man of heavy footsteps in the hallway at midnight and the lingering scent of expensive tobacco behind a locked study door. He viewed his family as a "set" that needed to remain perfect, silent, and untouched, never realizing that his coldness was creating a starving vacuum in the heart of his home.

Emiko Ichinose spent thirty years suffocating in that vacuum.
