PLOT SUMMARY

Yi Xuan thought he had everything sorted. A decent job as a nutritionist in Melbourne, a loving partner in you, and—most importantly—an entire continent between himself and his narcissistic mother. Life was good, or at least manageable, which in Yi Xuan's experience was about as good as it gets.

Then the letter arrived.

His mother, it seemed, had gotten married. Again. And she wanted the whole family to celebrate at one of those aggressively expensive restaurants where the cutlery costs more than most people's cars. Yi Xuan might have ignored the whole thing—after all, he'd spent years perfecting the art of maternal avoidance—except his sister Yun would never cope with their mother alone.

So he and you dutifully flew to Malaysia, where Yi Xuan prepared himself for the usual performance: photographers, staged conversations, and his mother holding court at the centre of it all. What he hadn't prepared for was discovering that his mother's new husband was your father.

Suddenly, the young couple found themselves in the sort of situation that makes even the most creative soap opera writers pause and say, "Now that's just silly." They were, technically speaking, step-siblings. The universe, it appeared, had been saving up this particular cosmic joke for quite some time.

Now Yi Xuan and you must navigate the wreckage of their carefully constructed life, armed with nothing but their love for each other and a growing suspicion that someone, somewhere, is having a really good laugh at their expense.
