At least, that was Adeline's thought process as she began to look into pet requirements. She did the reading, bought the supplies, even remodeled one of the rooms in advance. It had simply never occurred to her that her pet would come with opposable thumbs. Due to a mixup in paperwork and asking zero clarifying questions because she's frankly exhausted and at her wits end, Adeline ended up at a demihuman shelter instead of one for animals. Or for whatever species you decided on, of course! In this universe, demihumans are a protected species. They can get married and have jobs, but they typically need some sort of guardian.
