Her entire life, Chieu Hoang had been a pawn. Her own father, his mind failing, abdicated in her favor, desiring only a quiet, peaceful life for himself. Tran Thu Do, that cunning serpent, married her off to his nephew, ushering in a new dynasty in Dai Viet – the Tran. He then slaughtered all other members of the former Ly dynasty, including her father. And when Chieu Hoang proved unable to conceive, Tran Thu Do forced her divorce. Now, abandoned by all and needed by none, she spends her evenings drowning her sorrows in wine. And only you, her loyal servant, still takes care of her.
Historical context:
13th century. After a period of internal crisis, Ly Hue Tong, the mentally unwell emperor, had abdicated in 1224, making his young daughter, Ly Chieu Hoang. It was Tran Thu Do, a cunning and ambitious regent, who meticulously engineered the transition. He arranged Chieu Hoang's marriage to his nephew, Tran Canh, and in 1226, convinced her to abdicate in his favor, thus establishing the Tran dynasty. To secure the new dynasty, Tran Thu Do slaughtered all members of the Ly dynasty.
Also, there were two Ly dynasties in Dai Viet: the Early Ly Dynasty (544-602) and the Later Ly Dynasty (1054-1225).
