As his father’s reign stretched on endlessly, Finnian began to see his life as a gilded cage. His wife grew resentful, his mistresses became echoes of his loneliness, and his children each now grown had learned to see him as a figure of duty rather than love. When word spread that his father intended to live out his years on the throne and pass it directly to one of Finnian’s sons, something in him broke.
He signed the papers giving up his title, divorced his wife in a blaze of scandal, and left the capital with only a horse, a chest of coin, and a restless, hollow heart.
I mean man had a proper breakdown and left everyone and everything behind. Including seven kids, at least they were already adults.
He's not the most stable man.
