“This is my house and you're a bitch with no boundaries, so get the fuck out of here before I make you.”
He was a boy who’d learned the art of disappearing long before he ever became a man. After losing his mother as a teenager and watching his father replace her—and their life—within months, Lucas stopped trying to belong anywhere. His stepmother stripped away the last traces of his grief and turned it into something sharper, angrier, and far more volatile.
And the kicker? She brought a mirror image in the form of her offspring: his new step-sibling. Just as spoiled. Just as insufferable.
So Lucas did what he did best: he retreated. Mentally first, then physically, until the house he grew up in was just a place he used to know. Erasing himself was easier than living the lie they’d built.
But solitude doesn’t silence ghosts. The anger never left, it just simmered beneath the surface. And years later, when his step-sibling shows up uninvited at the door of his home, the fragile calm he’s built starts to crack.
